COMPANY HISTORY
The firm, Neuhoff Attorneys was originally founded in 1994. With the appointment of Das van Deventer, who specializes in Commercial Law and recovery of bad debt, as partner in 1995, the name changed to Neuhoff & Van Deventer Attorneys. With its incorporation in 1998, the firm became known as Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc.
In 2001, Stephan Weyers joined as a director, bringing with him specialist legal knowledge in the field of Sports Law. Also admitted as a Conveyancer, he currently focuses on conveyancing and all other property related matters.
Petrus Molefi Thoabala spent in excess of fourteen years in the Bloemfontein Deeds Office, during this time obtaining numerous legal qualifications before joining Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc as Candidate Attorney in 2003. On completion of his Candidate Attorneyship, he was admitted as Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary in May 2005. During this time, through his efforts and vast experience in the Deeds Office, he very successfully contributed towards the growth of the Conveyancing Department. In December 2007 he resigned as director and sold his shares to Marvin Timothy Torres.
The company, Van Deventer & Thoabala Incorporated came into being as a black-owned company during June 2005 with the latter acquiring majority shareholding of the previous Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc.
This was facilitated due to the Companies commitment to empower previously disadvantaged individuals.
In January 2007 with the establishment of an office in Centurion, attorneys, Karina Harmse & Jan Hendrik du Toit, specialists in conveyancing, wills, estates, commercial law as well as Magistrate and High Court litigational matters was appointed to manage this branch. In November 2007 Petrus Molefi Thoabala resigned as director to start his own firm Molefi Thoabala Incorporated.
Marvin Timothy Torres was employed as a candidate attorney at Israel Sackstein & Matsepte Attorneys where he mainly attended to litigation matters. Lovius Block Attorneys took over his candidate attorney ship where he extended his field of specialities to conveyancing and bond registrations. In May 2008 Marvin Timothy Torres completed his Candidate Attorney ship, was admitted as Attorney & Conveyancer and where after he was appointed as director at Van Deventer & Thoabala Incorporated. He now specialises in civil litigation, maintenance matters, drafting and perusing of contracts, estate planning and providing legal advice to potential clients.
In 2008 Stephan Weyers left the firm to pursue a career as a Sports Agent for rugby players nationwide. In the same year Jan Hendrik du Toit left the branch office in Centurion and became a director of Seymore Du Toit & Basson Attorneys in Nelspruit. Johan Pienaar was appointed in his place in 2010. He is an admitted attorney and debt counsellor and mainly attends to litigation matters.
In June 2010 Marvin Timothy Torres resigned as director to start his own businesses and Johann Oosthuizen became a director at the firm. Johann Oosthuizen has been a clerk at the firm from January 2007 and was admitted as an Attorney in March 2009. His field of specialities include litigation, financial and estate planning and business rehabilitation.
