Company History

The firm, Neuhoff Attorneys was originally founded in 1994. With the appointment of Das van Deventer, who specializes in Commercial Law and recovery of bad debt, as partner in 1995, the name changed to Neuhoff & Van Deventer Attorneys. With its incorporation in 1998, the firm became known a Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc.

In 2001, Stephan Weyers joined as director, bringing with him specialist legal knowledge in the field of sports Law. Also admitted as a Conveyancer, he currently focuses on conveyancing and all property related matters.

Petrus Thoabala spent in excess of fourteen years in the Bloemfontein Deeds Office, during this time obtaining numerous legal qualifications before joining Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc. as Candidate Attorney in 2003. On completion of his Candidate Attorneyship, he was admitted as Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary in May 2005. During this time, through his efforts and vast experience in the Deeds Office, he very successfully contributed towards the growth of the Conveyancing Department.

The company, Van Deventer & Thoabala Inc came into being as a black-owned company during June 2005 with the latter acquiring majority shareholding of the previous Neuhoff & Van Deventer Inc.

This was facilitated due to the companies commitment to empower previously disadvanteged individuals.

Wnating to extend its operation into the Eastern Free State, Van Deventer & Thoabala Inc opened an office in Bethlehem early in April 2006. Engaging the services of an experienced and established legal practitioner, Sarel Venter to head up his practice. Besides offering the full spectrum of legal services, he focuses on conveyancing, commercial law, debt recovery and in particular servicing the agricultural sector in the region.

In January 2007 with the establishment of an office in Centurion, Karina Harmse & Jan Hendrik du Toit, specialists in conveyancing, wills, estates, commercial law as well as Magistrate and High Court litigation matters was appointed to manage this practice.

With the opening of the new Deeds Office in Nelspruit during 2007 we established an office which will specialize in conveyancing, commercial law and estate planning. Mrs. Basson who manages the Nelspruit branch did her LLM Masters degree in The Electronic Lodgement and Registration of Deeds, and has extensive experience in the Deeds Office.
